lord of the rings and last midsummer blog

In lord of the rings the fellowship is on the brink of dividing; because Gandalf is gone, Boromir is showing his real side and Frodo wandered off by himself. I really enjoyed the scene where Boromir was after the ring because I could remember that scene so well from the movie and I thought they were very similar. Also the scene where Sam runs after Frodo and jumps into the river even when he knows he can't swim. I am really looking forward to see whats in store for Sam and Frodo. In midsummer all the couples are getting married, and Bottum is finally going to put on his play which ends up bein awful. Throughout the entire play the male characters make comments on how horrible the play is. In the end shakspeare reminds everyone with pucks speech of how we are supposed to watch a play.

I really enjoyed the lord of the rings chapter when the fellowship traveled through Moria. It was so much more detailed then the movie, but overall as far as that scene goes the movie and the book were very close. I really couldn't tell ant differences from the movie and the book. I especially enjoyed the scene when Gandalf took on the bolrog because in reading it I felt like I was in moria with the fellowship. In midsummer many unusual events have happened. I enjoyed the scene when puck turned bottums head into a donkey and oberon forced titania to fall in love with him, but I was a little disgusted as well. I also enjoyed the scene where both demetrius and Lysander fall in love with helena because she was so convinced that they were mocking her when they were in fact in love with her.

lord of the rings and first midsummer blog

I especially enjoyed the council of Elrond chapter in lord of the rings because it gave alot of backround information and answered alot of questions I had. One big mystery I had was regarding Gandalf and why he was so long delayed in meeting Frodo. I did see the movie and knew about Saurumon turning to the dark side but the book explained it in so much more detail which made it so much better. I also enjoyed the chapter because it introduced all the characters I remembered from the movie which got me excited to read further. I also did not quite have an understanding of Arogorn and what he was to be king over, but after reaeding this chapter I further understand. I remember reading midsummer in middle school but have completely forgotten the story. So far in after reading act 1 I've enjoyed it I noticed how the characters of Hermia and Lysander resemble Romeo and Juliet and it really show how things were back then. Hermia really wants to marry Lysander but her father wants her to marry Demetrius and even though Lysander may be in many regards better then Demetrius, it is still to the say of the father. It seems very bold of Hermia and Lysander to run away together so I look forward to seeing what happens there.
